It's not only about reaching out to an international audience. Donohue said that the NBA 2K League had an agenda for this season however, it wasn't about reaching out to an international audience.

"The advantage of esports is the possibility of imagining Magic Gaming can do it from Disney, or the Knicks could play it by using the Statue of Liberty," Donohue envisages."You can see games that are played in different ways that make the brand come to life." The NBA 2K League begins to prepare for its fourth season, with an expanding fan base, established partnerships and an ambitious tryout process to select the best players, wherever they are, the world certainly does appear to be their oyster.

OPINION: 19 ways that NBA 2K could improve

It is well established in the world of basketball video games. There is only one competitor to 2K in the form of NBA Live. 2K has been the most dominant player in the marketplace for the last five to six years, despite its infrequent releases. This dominance has led to record sales for 2K Sports and Take-Two Interactive, but the game itself has not seen any significant improvements over the past couple of years. There are a few issues and bugs in the game's gameplay that have existed over the previous two releases. It is frustrating for fans who are spending $60 on the game each year, to be receiving a product made with little thought.

NBA 2K20 is the worst series release since NBA 2K8. The gameplay was basic. It was like the developers had taken NBA 2K19 and painted it. They then released the product with the title NBA 2K20. The only significant change in it was the number of advertisements affixed across MyCareer and the Park. I am confident that NBA 2K could be an enjoyable game. The issues that must be addressed are comparatively minor. Any improvements suggested will improve the game as an entire. 2K is a solid platform, but the features need some work.

Player likenesses : Classic teams have been part of 2K ever since 2011. There have been some problems with the classic teams through the years, but there's a huge problem with licensing for player likenesses. NBA 2K must pay a fee to retired players every year in order to have the right to use their image in the game. A few players do not want their image to be used for the purpose of playing. 2K is not able to agree on acceptable financial agreements with any of these players. This means that classic teams are usually not complete and lack all the pieces that make a team unique.

The Seven Seconds and Fewer Suns are the perfect examples of incompatibility. Joe Johnson is not on the team. Johnson was averaging 17.1 points per game with the Suns and was a vital scoring option for Phoenix. The omission of Johnson means that it is useless to pick the Suns particularly in competitive online games. The Phoenix Suns in 1993 made the NBA Finals behind Charles Barkley's efforts. The team was outstanding and featured Charles Barkley in the prime of his career. The 1993 Suns are not even in the game because 2K has no desire to offer Barkley's salary.
