The concept for the creation of the Isle of Axholme Pottery originated following the closure of a college which previously offered training courses in pottery and ceramics. A medium sized Kiln and various processing items were acquired and having some previous interest in sculpture and painting we embarked on an intense programme of understanding and applying the processes associated with the creation and manufacture of various forms of pottery.

The experience was so satisfying and provided the ultimate in stress relief; that it was decided that we should develop this hobby into a business which could offer others access to this traditional highly flexible multi-faceted process.

The Pottery has been in existence for a period of 10 years starting with a Studio located in Epworth which enabled the general public to use facilities which included painting pre-manufactured bisque, hand building and the use of a Potters’ wheel.

Eventually the Studio had to close due to a continued increase in overhead costs. We continue to offer this unique experience at a number of local community facilities, where groups attend on a weekly basis.

We recognise the need for an interactive website, so that we are able to offer a wide range of products and services, so that a wider audience have access to this diverse and satisfying past time.

One thing we have learnt over the duration of the potteries existence is that there is always something new to learn and nothing is more satisfying than when the kiln is opened and various items that were placed inside looking rather bland and unremarkable are transformed into pieces of shear stunning beauty.

The creation of pottery and ceramics has many challenging aspects. The Isle of Axholme Pottery will endeavour to provide access to a large number.
